# QuickBooks in Claude and ChatGPT, outside the US.

A free MCP connector for QuickBooks Online. Sign in with Intuit and ask your books questions from Claude or ChatGPT, wherever your company is.

It runs 29 reports, searches 40 record types, and makes changes only after you see a preview and approve it. Your accounting data goes straight from Intuit to your AI app. I don’t store it.

Connect it

1\. In Claude, add a custom connector. In ChatGPT, add a custom app (developer mode). Paste this URL:

2\. Sign in with Intuit and pick your company.

3\. Ask: _“What was my profit last quarter, by month?”_

## Why I built it.

The short version: the official one stops at the US border.

Intuit has its own QuickBooks connector for Claude and an app in ChatGPT. Both are [for US customers only](https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/accounting-bookkeeping/use-quickbooks-connector-claude/L3YBlo6Ht%5FUS%5Fen%5FUS). If your company files in Canada, the UK or Australia, the option simply isn’t there, even though the QuickBooks API underneath works fine for you.

The other route is Intuit’s open-source server. It works anywhere, but you have to register your own developer app, get production keys approved, and run the server yourself. That’s a lot to ask of a bookkeeper who just wants to ask “who owes us money?”

So I built a hosted connector that anyone with QuickBooks Online can add in a minute. I kept it to what Intuit’s free API tier allows, so I can keep it free. If you need more than that, [email me](mailto:ankur@nocodetalks.co?subject=Nocodetalks%20Books%20Connector).

## What it can do.

Eight tools your AI app can call.

| Tool | What it does |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| get\_report | Runs any of 29 reports, such as P&L, Balance Sheet, A/R Aging and Sales by Product. |
| query\_records | Searches any of 40 record types, with QuickBooks’ own query filters. |
| get\_record | Gets one record by its ID. |
| get\_changes | Lists records changed in the last 30 days. |
| prepare\_write | Previews a create, update, delete, void or send. Nothing changes in QuickBooks. |
| commit\_write | Applies a previewed change once, after you approve it. |
| get\_connection\_status | Shows the connected company and how many reads are left today. |
| disconnect\_quickbooks | Revokes access and deletes the stored tokens. |

## What it covers.

## Where your data lives.

Your books stay in QuickBooks. The connector is a pass-through.

When you ask a question, the connector calls Intuit’s API with your sign-in, and hands the answer to your AI app. Reports, invoices, customers and every other record pass through in memory and aren’t saved, logged or used for anything else. Claude or ChatGPT then keeps your conversation under their own privacy policy, as with anything you paste into them.

This is the complete list of what the connector does keep:

| Kept | Why | For how long |
| --------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Intuit sign-in tokens and your company ID** | Lets the connector call QuickBooks for you. Tokens are encrypted (AES-256). | Until you disconnect. Intuit’s refresh token lasts up to 100 days. |
| **Hashes of the tokens your AI app holds** | Checks that a request really comes from the app you approved. The tokens themselves are never stored. | One hour for access, 90 days for refresh. |
| **Your AI app’s registration** | Its name and the addresses it returns to after sign-in. | Kept so the app can sign in again. |
| **A previewed change** | The change you asked for, encrypted, waiting for your approval. | 15 minutes, or until it is used. |
| **A write log** | Which action ran on which record type and record ID, with Intuit’s transaction ID. No amounts, names or other contents. | Kept so a change can be traced if something goes wrong. |
| **Read counts** | How many reads each company made today, and the service this month. | Kept to enforce the limits below. |

## How changes are protected.

Nothing is written without a preview you approve.

| Step | What happens |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Preview first** | Every change starts as a preview that shows exactly what will be written. Nothing changes in QuickBooks at that step. |
| **One approval, one change** | The preview returns a token that works once, for 15 minutes, for that company only. |
| **Your AI app asks you** | Applying a change is marked destructive, so Claude and ChatGPT ask before they run it. Where the app supports it, the connector also asks you directly. |
| **Canadian tax codes** | On Canadian companies, a transaction is refused until each line carries one of the company’s own GST/HST tax codes. |

Read the preview before you approve it. An AI app can misread a request, and the change is real once applied.

## Limits.

Set by Intuit’s free tier, shared by everyone who uses the connector.

- Each company can make 2,000 reads a day. The count resets at midnight UTC.
- Intuit allows 500,000 reads a month across all companies, so the connector stops a little before that. It resets on the 1st.
- Large results are refused rather than cut off. Narrow the dates or filters and ask again.

Need higher limits for a firm with many clients? [Email me](mailto:ankur@nocodetalks.co?subject=Nocodetalks%20Books%20Connector).

## Common questions.

Something not working? Email [ankur@nocodetalks.co](mailto:ankur@nocodetalks.co?subject=Nocodetalks%20Books%20Connector).

Is it free?

Yes. It runs on Intuit’s free tier of the QuickBooks Online Accounting API, and I don’t charge for it. Paid Intuit APIs, higher limits and custom servers are paid work.

Does it work outside the US?

That’s why it exists. There is no country check in it. Reads work the same everywhere, and writes on Canadian companies check GST/HST tax codes first.

Do you see or keep my books?

No. Reports and records go from Intuit to your AI app and aren’t saved. The connector keeps only encrypted sign-in tokens, a write log with no amounts, and read counts.

Which QuickBooks do I need?

QuickBooks Online, any plan, and a login that can approve app connections for the company. QuickBooks Desktop isn’t supported.

Is this made by Intuit?

No. It’s an independent connector built on Intuit’s public API. QuickBooks and Intuit are trademarks of Intuit Inc.

How do I disconnect?

Ask your AI app to disconnect QuickBooks, which revokes access and deletes the stored tokens. You can also remove it from the Apps page in QuickBooks.

## Need a paid API, or your own MCP server?

I can add Intuit’s paid APIs, raise the limits for your firm, or build a custom MCP server for QuickBooks, Xero, Stripe or your own systems.
