_A setup guide for US CPA firms and bookkeepers._ Which Claude surface fits which job, the plan for client work, four prompts with sample output, and what Claude still can't do. Checked October 19, 2026.

## The short answer

Accountants use Claude in six places: chat Projects for research and client emails, Claude for Excel for workpapers, Cowork for folder jobs, Intuit's QuickBooks connector for live books, Agent Skills for repeat work and Claude Code for scripts. Put client work on Claude Team, from $20 a seat a month billed annually, and check every number yourself: in 7 Claude month-end demos we reviewed, nobody tied an AI-made figure back to its source. On Team, Anthropic doesn't train on your content by default.

## Pick your setup in 30 seconds

Take the first row that fits. Prices are from Anthropic's pages on October 19, 2026.

| If you have… | Start with | Plan | Go to |
|---|---|---|---|
| No client data yet, and want to try it | Chat and a Project | Free, or Pro at $20 a month | [Step 2](#setup-project) |
| A firm of 2 to 150 people doing client work | Shared Projects and the Excel add-in | Team, $20 a seat a month billed annually | [Step 1](#setup-plan) |
| A solo practice with client files | The same, on business terms | Team at its 2-seat minimum: $40 a month billed annually | [Step 1](#setup-plan) |
| Most of your work in Excel | Claude for Excel and PowerPoint | Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise | [Step 3](#setup-excel) |
| Client books in QuickBooks Online (US) | Intuit's QuickBooks connector | Any plan | [Step 4](#setup-quickbooks) |
| The same job every month | An Agent Skill | Any plan | [Step 5](#setup-skill) |
| A folder job, or files that must stay local | Cowork, or Claude Code | Any paid plan | [Step 6](#setup-folders) |
| A need for audit logs, SCIM or over 150 seats | Enterprise | $20 a seat billed annually, 20-seat minimum, plus usage | [Which plan](#which-plan) |

> Note: **Since October 6, 2026**, new Cowork tasks on Pro and Max run in Anthropic's cloud, and you can't switch back. On Team, an Owner decides. For work that must stay on your computer, Anthropic points to Claude Code in the desktop app.

## What do AI answers get wrong about Claude for accountants?

**0 of 24** AI answers to "How can accountants use Claude?" named a Claude plan, a price or a setting for client data in the first 1,500 characters we saved. We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI Overview once a day from October 8 to 13, 2026 (Nocodetalks research, October 2026).

They agree on the jobs: document work (23 of 24 answers), client emails (19), variance analysis (19), spreadsheets (17), tax research and reconciliations (15 each). They rarely say where in Claude to do them. Claude for Excel came up in 2 answers, Cowork in 4 and Projects in none. Two claims need a correction from Anthropic's own pages.

| What the answers said | Engine and dates | What's true on October 19, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Claude builds VBA macros for your Excel work | Claude (Sonnet 4.5, web search on): Oct 8, 10, 11 and 13 | Only in a chat, as code you paste in yourself. Claude for Excel lists macros and VBA operations as unsupported, so inside the workbook ask for formulas ([Anthropic](https://claude.com/docs/office-agents/excel)) |
| Cowork is a desktop app ("an agentic desktop app for Mac and Windows" on Oct 8 and 9) | Google AI Overview: Oct 8, 9, 10 and 12 | Cowork runs on desktop, web and mobile. Since October 6, 2026, new Pro and Max tasks run in Anthropic's cloud ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/15520349-use-claude-cowork-on-web-desktop-and-mobile)) |
| Nothing on plans, client data or the QuickBooks connector's limits | All 24 answers (first 1,500 characters) | Client files belong on Team, from $20 a seat a month billed annually ([which plan](#which-plan)). Intuit's connector doesn't list bills or journal entries ([Step 4](#setup-quickbooks)) |

Each engine leans on a few pages and repeats them daily. Only 4 of the 155 sources they cited were Anthropic or Intuit pages, and none was Anthropic's pricing page or help center. Only jetpackworkflow.com was cited by all four engines.

| Engine | Cited on all 6 days | Sites cited over 6 days |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | proaicraft.com, claudereadiness.com, nightschoolai.com, accountantwithai.com, YouTube | 11 |
| Claude | everydaycpa.com, jetpackworkflow.com | 9 |
| Perplexity | financial-cents.com, jetpackworkflow.com | 13 |
| Google AI Overview | YouTube, udemy.com, medium.com, cfoconnect.eu, jetpackworkflow.com | 9 |

Google cited two of Jason Staats' Cowork videos on all 6 days. [What those demos check](#what-demos-check) is further down.

> Note: **How we measured.** Nocodetalks research, October 2026. Once a day from October 8 to 13, 2026, DataForSEO's LLM Responses API sent the question to ChatGPT (gpt-4o-mini) and Claude (claude-sonnet-4-5), both with web search on, and Perplexity (sonar). Google got the keyword "claude for accountants" (US, desktop). That gives 24 answers. Only the first 1,500 characters of each were saved, so later text isn't counted. Topics were matched by keyword and checked by hand, and a source counts once per answer. Six days is a small sample.

Firms are hiring for this too. In our October 9, 2026 Upwork check, 3 of 30 finance-automation posts named Claude in the title: a [Claude automation builder for an accounting firm](https://www.upwork.com/jobs/~022106125517256003405) (rate not shown), an [AI/Claude specialist for a UK outsourced finance firm](https://www.upwork.com/jobs/~022104277794399685044) ($30 to $80 an hour) and a [Xero and QuickBooks API plus Claude MCP build](https://www.upwork.com/jobs/~022099143630492642125) ($50 fixed).

> Note: **How we measured.** Nocodetalks research, October 2026: 20 Upwork searches on October 9, the 50 newest posts each, 655 unique, of which 30 ask for finance automation. Titles only, so a post naming Claude only in its description is missed. Budgets are as posted.

## Set it up: 6 steps for a firm

### Step 1: Put client work on Team and change three settings

Standard seats suit most staff. Premium seats ($100 a month billed annually) carry 5x the usage, for heavy Cowork users. Before anyone opens a client file, an Owner turns off **Rate chats** (Organization settings > Data and Privacy), sets write and delete tools to **Needs approval** (Customize > Connectors), and decides on **Run Cowork in the cloud** (Organization settings > Cowork). The rest is in the [settings list](https://www.nocodetalks.co/blog/is-claude-safe-for-client-data#claude-admin-settings).

### Step 2: Make one Project per client

Add the chart of accounts, last year's GL, your close checklist and the engagement scope, up to 30 MB a file. Let Claude draft the instructions, then edit them.

Prompt for Claude · Draft the project instructions:

```
This Project is for [CLIENT CODE], a [INDUSTRY] client on QuickBooks Online, [BASIS] basis, year ending [MONTH]. It holds the chart of accounts, last year's GL, our close checklist and the engagement scope.
Write project instructions, under 200 words, that tell you to:
1. Work only from these files and what I paste, and name the file behind every number.
2. Keep what the files prove apart from what you infer.
3. Never invent an amount, account or date. Ask instead.
4. Use account names exactly as in the chart of accounts.
5. Draft only. Nothing reaches the client or the books until I review it.
Ask up to 3 questions first if anything is unclear.
```

Example output · Questions:

```
Before I write these:
1. Do you close monthly or quarterly for this client?
2. Should I flag P&L changes above a dollar or percent threshold? If so, which?
3. Who reviews my drafts: you, or someone I should name?
```

_Fake output for a made-up client, CL-014. The answers: monthly; $5,000 and 10%; the preparer reviews._

Example output · Project instructions:

```
You support the monthly close for CL-014, a wholesale food distributor on QuickBooks Online, accrual basis, fiscal year ending December.
Sources: use only the files in this project and what I paste in chat. After every number, name the file and the account or row it came from.
Evidence first: split each answer into Confirmed (the files show it) and Inferred (your reasoning). Never present an inference as a fact.
No inventing: if an amount, account, date or document is missing, say what's missing and ask. Don't estimate unless I ask.
Accounts: use names and numbers exactly as in the chart of accounts. Suggest a new account only as a question.
Thresholds: flag P&L changes over $5,000 and over 10% against the same month last year.
Review: everything you produce is a draft for me. Nothing goes to the client or into QuickBooks until I approve it.
```

_Fake output. Paste it into the Project's instructions, then edit it to match how your firm works._

### Step 3: Install Claude for Excel and start with a flux review

Install **Claude for Microsoft 365** from Microsoft AppSource, or have IT deploy it. It runs in Excel on the web, for Windows with Microsoft 365 and for Mac, but not in Excel 2016 or 2019. Work on a copy, and ask for formulas so the file still works next month.

Prompt for Claude · In Claude for Excel: a flux tab built from formulas:

```
This workbook has a TB tab of September activity: Account, CY (September 2026) and PY (September 2025).
Add a Flux tab built only with formulas linked to the TB tab: Account, CY, PY, $ change, % change, and Flag, which is TRUE when the change is over [$5,000] and over [10%], in either direction.
Sort by the size of the $ change. Check that every TB account appears once.
Then list each flagged line with one question I should ask the client, citing the cell.
Don't edit the TB tab. Don't explain a variance the data can't support.
```

Example output · Flux:

| Account | CY | PY | $ change | % change | Flag |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4000 Revenue | 412,600 | 371,900 | +40,700 | +10.9% | TRUE |
| 5000 Cost of goods sold | 151,300 | 128,400 | +22,900 | +17.8% | TRUE |
| 6300 Professional fees | 6,500 | 14,200 | -7,700 | -54.2% | TRUE |
| 6200 Software subscriptions | 9,840 | 3,120 | +6,720 | +215.4% | TRUE |
| 6000 Payroll expenses | 118,450 | 112,800 | +5,650 | +5.0% | FALSE |
| 6400 Travel | 4,310 | 2,950 | +1,360 | +46.1% | FALSE |
| 6500 Insurance | 3,900 | 3,600 | +300 | +8.3% | FALSE |
| 6100 Rent | 24,000 | 24,000 | 0 | 0.0% | FALSE |

_Fake data for CL-014, P&L accounts only. Every number is a formula; row 2's formulas are on the next tab._

Example output · Formulas (row 2):

| Column | Formula |
|---|---|
| CY | =XLOOKUP(A2,TB!A:A,TB!B:B) |
| PY | =XLOOKUP(A2,TB!A:A,TB!C:C) |
| $ change | =B2-C2 |
| % change | =D2/C2 |
| Flag | =AND(ABS(D2)>5000,ABS(E2)>0.1) |

_Click any number on the Flux tab and you land on a formula like these, not a typed value._

Example output · Reply:

```
4 of 8 accounts are flagged. All 8 TB accounts appear once on Flux.
• 4000 Revenue, +40,700 (+10.9%), Flux!D2. Ask: new customers, a price change, or invoices billed earlier than last year?
• 5000 Cost of goods sold, +22,900 (+17.8%), Flux!D3. It grew faster than revenue, so gross margin fell from 65.5% to 63.3%. Ask: supplier price increases or a change in product mix?
• 6300 Professional fees, -7,700 (-54.2%), Flux!D4. Ask: was last September's bill a one-off, or is this month's bill not booked yet?
• 6200 Software subscriptions, +6,720 (+215.4%), Flux!D5. Ask: was an annual subscription expensed in one month that should be prepaid?
Not flagged: 6000 Payroll expenses is up 5,650, but only 5.0%.
```

_Fake data. Claude writes the questions; the explanations come from the client._

The same add-in covers PowerPoint and reads your template's slide master, so the board slide can come from the same conversation.

### Step 4: Connect QuickBooks, read-only first

Open **Customize > Connectors**, pick Intuit QuickBooks and sign in. On Team, an Owner enables it first. As of October 2026 it's US-only and, per Intuit, limited to reports, transaction imports, invoices, estimates, payment links, customers and products.

Prompt for Claude · Audit the connector, then tie A/R:

```
Before we use QuickBooks for [CLIENT CODE]:
1. List the QuickBooks tools you can call, grouped as read or write. Mark any that send, delete or change data.
2. Using read tools only, pull A/R aging as of [DATE]. Show each bucket's total and the 5 largest balances over 60 days.
3. Pull the balance sheet for the same date and show A/R next to the aging total, with the difference.
Don't create, send or change anything.
```

Example output · Tools:

```
Read: profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, A/R and A/P aging, sales by customer and product, invoices, estimates, customers, payroll lookups.
Write: create and update invoices, estimates, customers, products and services, payment links, transaction imports.
Sends or deletes: send an invoice or estimate, send a payment reminder, delete an invoice or estimate (QuickBooks asks you to confirm deletes).
```

_Shape only, grouped from Intuit's published list. A connector's answer is the AI's own description of itself, so check it against Customize > Connectors._

Example output · A/R aging:

| Bucket | Amount |
|---|---|
| Current | 48,210.00 |
| 1-30 days | 21,530.50 |
| 31-60 days | 9,875.00 |
| 61-90 days | 6,420.00 |
| Over 90 days | 3,960.00 |
| Total per aging | 89,995.50 |
| A/R per balance sheet | 91,245.50 |
| Difference | 1,250.00 |

_Fake data, as of 09/30/2026._

Example output · Over 60 days:

| Customer | Bucket | Balance |
|---|---|---|
| Customer A | 61-90 days | 3,200.00 |
| Customer B | Over 90 days | 2,760.00 |
| Customer C | 61-90 days | 1,980.00 |
| Customer D | 61-90 days | 1,240.00 |
| Customer E | Over 90 days | 1,200.00 |
| Total |  | 10,380.00 |

_Fake data. Only 5 customers are over 60 days, so this is all of them: 6,420.00 + 3,960.00 = 10,380.00._

Example output · Reply:

```
Aging total 89,995.50. Balance sheet A/R 91,245.50. Difference 1,250.00.
I can't see the cause with the tools I have. In QuickBooks, look for a journal entry posted to A/R, or check that both reports use the same accounting basis.
Nothing was created, sent or changed.
```

_Fake reply. Finding the 1,250.00 is your job, in QuickBooks._

### Step 5: Turn what worked into a skill

A skill is a folder of instructions and files that Claude loads only when a task needs it. Skills work on every plan once code execution is on, and they load in Claude for Excel, Cowork and Claude Code. Upload one under Customize > Skills > + > Create skill > Upload a skill.

Prompt for Claude · Turn the flux review into a skill:

```
Turn the flux review we just did into a skill called monthly-flux-review.
Write SKILL.md with:
- a description of when to use it: a trial balance with current and prior period columns
- the steps in order, with the dollar and percent thresholds as inputs
- the checks: every TB account appears once on Flux, and every flagged line has a question citing a cell
- what it must never do: explain a variance the data can't support, or edit the TB
Keep client names and numbers out of it. Package the folder as a ZIP I can upload.
```

Example output · SKILL.md:

```
---
name: monthly-flux-review
description: Use when the user shares a trial balance with current and prior period columns and asks for a flux or variance review. Builds a formula-driven Flux tab and a list of client questions.
---
# Monthly flux review
Inputs: a TB tab (Account, CY, PY), a dollar threshold and a percent threshold. Ask for any that are missing.
1. Add a Flux tab. Every value is a formula linked to the TB tab: CY, PY, $ change, % change, Flag.
2. Flag a line when the change is over both thresholds, in either direction.
3. Sort by the size of the $ change.
4. Check that every TB account appears exactly once. If not, stop and list the gaps.
5. For each flagged line, write one question for the client and cite the cell.
Never explain a variance the data can't support. Never edit the TB tab. Never store client names or amounts in this skill.
```

_Fake output. It holds no client data, so it's safe to share across the firm._

Example output · ZIP:

```
monthly-flux-review.zip
└── monthly-flux-review/
    └── SKILL.md
```

_Upload it, then run it next month on a copy and compare the result with this month's tab._

Or start from Anthropic's open-source [finance plugin](https://github.com/anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins/tree/main/finance) (~30.3k stars, Apache-2.0), with skills for journal entries, reconciliation, variance analysis, close management and audit support. Install it in Cowork from claude.com/plugins, or in Claude Code with `claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins` and then `claude plugin install finance@knowledge-work-plugins`. Intuit's [QuickBooks skills](https://github.com/intuit/quickbooks-claude-plugin) (Apache-2.0, 0 stars) need its connector.

### Step 6: Use Cowork or Claude Code for folder jobs

Cowork works through a folder of statements or workpapers and returns Excel or PowerPoint files. It can change files, so give it copies. If files must stay on your computer, use [Claude Code](https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code) (~152k stars, proprietary license) in the desktop app's Code tab: pick Local and start in Plan mode. See a [statement parser](https://www.nocodetalks.co/blog/bank-statements-to-quickbooks-with-ai#script-it) and a [QuickBooks API pull](https://www.nocodetalks.co/blog/quickbooks-api-integration-with-claude-code#workflow).

## Which Claude plan should an accounting firm use?

Team: it's the smallest plan on business terms, with 2 to 150 seats from $20 a seat a month and no training on your content by default.

| Plan | Price (US, Oct 19, 2026) | Client files? | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | No | Chat, 5 Projects, connectors, skills. No Excel add-in or Claude Code |
| Pro | $20 a month, $17 billed annually | No: consumer terms | Excel and PowerPoint add-ins, Cowork, Claude Code |
| Max | From $100 a month | No: consumer terms | 5x or 20x Pro's usage |
| Team Standard | $20 a seat billed annually, $25 monthly | Yes | SSO, shared Projects, connector controls, org-wide skills |
| Team Premium | $100 a seat billed annually, $125 monthly | Yes | 5x a Standard seat's usage |
| Enterprise | $20 a seat billed annually, 20-seat minimum, plus usage at API rates | Yes | Audit logs, SCIM, Compliance API, custom retention |

Usage limits reset every 5 hours, paid plans add weekly caps, and Claude for Excel shares the same allowance. One firm coach found Cowork burned through Team limits fast ([Jason Staats @16:19](https://youtu.be/5DevfwAfVpA?t=979)). Rolling it out to a team? See the [CFO's 90-day playbook](https://www.nocodetalks.co/blog/ai-in-finance-cfo-playbook).

## Do Claude demos for accountants check the numbers?

**0 of 7.** In the 7 Claude month-end demos we read in full, nobody checked an AI-made figure against its source on screen. The videos that did check were built as tests, with a known answer to compare against.

| Demo | What was checked | What wasn't |
|---|---|---|
| [Peta-Gaye Hardy](https://youtu.be/OHrRdu9vS6w): a close skill drafts 3 entries | She notes every entry balances | Where the amounts came from: no schedules were given |
| [Mike Dion](https://youtu.be/UP8jzq5mvJ0): a full close in Zoho Books | June is declared reconciled ([@7:13](https://youtu.be/UP8jzq5mvJ0?t=433)) | No balances on screen. $173,116 of net income from a 19-transaction month goes unquestioned ([@10:23](https://youtu.be/UP8jzq5mvJ0?t=623)) |
| [Mike Dion](https://youtu.be/-yeTf5YFlmw): a Cowork reporting pack | He clicks through each file | No figure is tied to the source P&L |
| [Mike Dion](https://youtu.be/K87NNTvUOR4): a deck in Claude for PowerPoint | Claude runs its own verification pass | No slide number is tied to the P&L by a person |
| [Carolina Lago](https://youtu.be/Yeqk35K0MRg): trial balance to board deck in Claude Code | A visual review | No number is tied to the workbook; no raw trial balance appears |
| [Excel University](https://youtu.be/XnCrjcFxk4Y): variances in Claude for Excel | Cells are formulas. Signs spot-checked on 2 rows ([@2:41](https://youtu.be/XnCrjcFxk4Y?t=161)) | The top-5 ranking, and whether roll-ups total |
| [Lvl 99 TechSkillz](https://youtu.be/PD1ETjRM9u8): a bank rec in Claude chat | A person reviews each flagged row | No ending balance tie-out, and no count that every row landed somewhere |
| **Test:** [Jason Staats](https://youtu.be/5DevfwAfVpA?t=162): Cowork codes bank statements | 67, then 670 transactions tied to the ending balance ([@2:42](https://youtu.be/5DevfwAfVpA?t=162), [@4:05](https://youtu.be/5DevfwAfVpA?t=245)). All 10 errors he planted in a tax workbook found ([@11:55](https://youtu.be/5DevfwAfVpA?t=715)) | Real client files: the statements were AI-generated |
| **Test:** [CFI](https://youtu.be/BX2PxxM15Zc?t=996): a 3-statement model in Claude for Excel | Year-5 net income and the balance sheet matched the course answer key ([@16:36](https://youtu.be/BX2PxxM15Zc?t=996)) | Messy real data: it was a clean course model |

Copy the tests, not the tutorials. Tie every run to a number Claude didn't produce: the bank statement's ending balance, a QuickBooks report, or an error you planted. The A/R prompt in Step 4 does this: it sets QuickBooks' aging total against the balance sheet.

> Note: **How we measured.** Nocodetalks research, October 2026. On October 11 we read the full captions of 12 month-end, close, variance and bank-rec videos from 2026 and logged every check shown on screen. 7 use Claude; the rest use Copilot, Excel alone, or no demo. The test rows come from an October 7 read of 62 finance-AI videos. Timestamps were re-checked on October 19. Checks done off camera don't show, and most demos use made-up data.

## What can't Claude do for accountants?

It can't take responsibility: it misses errors, types numbers where formulas belong, and sees only part of your QuickBooks file.

- **Sign off.** Anthropic doesn't recommend Claude for Excel for client deliverables without human review, or for audit-critical numbers without verification.
- **Find every error.** Mike Dion planted 2 errors in a cash model. Claude fixed one and had to be told about the second ([AI For Finance @12:17](https://youtu.be/ksq1ZsNxvwE?t=737)).
- **Keep models live.** Josh Aharonoff found a Claude-built headcount tab full of typed salaries, so changing one updated nothing ([@18:05](https://youtu.be/m5YF89Kym1Y?t=1085)).
- **Reach the whole ledger.** Intuit's connector doesn't list bills or journal entries. Asked to write off invoices, it said it had no tools for credit memos or journal entries ([Hector Garcia CPA @11:34](https://youtu.be/aGyhYW0TQmE?t=694)).
- **Drive QuickBooks by browser.** Jason Staats watched Cowork spend about 10 minutes on the first of some 60 transactions, then stopped it ([@24:00](https://youtu.be/5DevfwAfVpA?t=1440)).
- **Run macros.** Claude for Excel doesn't do VBA, macros or data tables.
- **Read big scans.** In chat, PDFs over 100 pages are read as text only, without the page images.

> Left alone, AI will force a tidy match to look helpful.
> — Lvl 99 TechSkillz, How to Do a Bank Reconciliation With Claude AI (YouTube, Aug 2026) (https://youtu.be/PD1ETjRM9u8?t=126)

What people report
- A controller who ran the close for 12 entities says AI handled the routine work, but once wrote a convincing explanation for a variance that was really a misposting. They keep it away from accruals and cutoff. (a commenter on r/Accounting (Sep 2026), https://www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/comments/1wsxh2r/where_do_you_actually_trust_ai_in_the_monthend/)

## Is Claude safe for client data?

Yes for most firm work on Team or Enterprise, once an Owner changes a few settings and staff give Claude copies of client files, not originals.

Keep client files off Free, Pro and Max, which run on consumer terms. Claude for Excel and PowerPoint don't follow custom retention or appear in Enterprise audit logs, and Anthropic says not to schedule Cowork tasks that touch sensitive files. The details are in [Is Claude safe for client data?](https://www.nocodetalks.co/blog/is-claude-safe-for-client-data) For tax return data, read the [Section 7216 guide](https://www.nocodetalks.co/blog/irs-section-7216-ai-client-consent) first.

## Common questions

**Can accountants use Claude for free?**

For practice, yes: Free includes chat, up to 5 Projects, connectors and skills, but not Claude for Excel or Claude Code. Client files belong on a business plan such as Team.

**How much does Claude Team cost?**

Standard seats cost $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly, for 2 to 150 seats. Premium seats cost $100 or $125 and carry 5x the usage.

**Is Claude for Excel free?**

No. It comes with Pro ($20 a month), Max, Team and Enterprise, and it draws on your Claude account's usage limits.

**Can Claude do bookkeeping in QuickBooks?**

Partly. Intuit's connector reads reports, imports transactions and creates invoices and estimates for US customers, but it doesn't list bills or journal entries.

**Does Claude Cowork still run on my computer?**

Not on Pro or Max: new tasks have run in Anthropic's cloud since October 6, 2026. On Team, an Owner can keep Cowork local, and Claude Code in the desktop app runs locally on any paid plan.
